It’s been a long time coming! Some ideas born in the head have a few months gestation period! Finally, this came out!
It all started with our volunteering youth. They were fund raising for a mission trip abroad and were looking for opportunities to serve within the local community – for donations. I was starting to think of freshening up the playhouse. The opportunities presented each other, shook hands, and got on with it. They were happy painting, I was happy they were painting.
Unfortunately, summer came, and we left for the summer. Once we got back, I was six months (going on fifteen) pregnant by then. I needed the master helper. My mum!
In its entirety, I think mum and I have different tastes (she’s way more eccentric), but on most things, I trust her eye. So one morning, she agreed to help while I was busy at work. I left her the choice of paints, and gave her complete creative freedom. I couldn’t trust anyone else like that. The colour choice is perfect! Not too hospital, not too girlie, not too boyish – just perfect for a Pet Clinic.
First layer done. Now for the furnishings and accessories.
We didn’t do much painting on the outside, but the white paws really freshened it up!
Veterinary clinic downstairs and adoption centre upstairs.
Record keeping (aka Big book of boo-boos) is a must.
Pets looking for their humans.
Ikea dog bum hangers fit perfectly with our theme.
Now, hours of bureaucracy keep out Vet intern occupied.
Make it and love it!
Our playhouse is finished!
This is perhaps the most amazing gift my kids will ever receive! I am pretty sure this will free my dad from all Birthday and Christmas presents for both of my kids for years!
In the beginning of this summer, when I mentioned to my dad my plans of making something like this for my children, I had a vision of a little box, probably made out of recycled pallets… My dad jumped at the opportunity, and – he has only himself to blame – turned it into a month long project that has utilized pretty much each one of his skills – welding, carpentry, painting, carving, and many more. The result is an amazing playhouse, loved by my children and absolutely adored by me!
Definitely more posts later on the making of!
The Playhouse came at the perfect time – right after Lexie’s birthday and just before Charlie’s. Another perfect aspect of the timing is the fact that everything that’s inside was already acquired and prophetically waiting for its rightful place in the Playhouse. Perfect fit for everything… I thought it lucky, but knowing my dad, he has measured everything precisely! Again, more on that later!
Hall – place to take off your tight shoes and slip on a comfy baker’s apron!
Dining area – a place where hungry little boys wait for their dinner.
Bedroom – Lexie was very quick to “shotgun” the window side as her own, letting Charlie settle for the “isle” side.
Sliding doors, a wonderful idea by my dad. Saves space!
I am sure I will have years of DIY posts that will center around this beloved Playhouse. I have already purchased curtain material….
